What Does The Excelsior Bouquet Eau de Toilette Smell Like?
With a high-spirited blend of flint, sage and spice, Excelsior is a scent that takes you to new heights. It’s the fragrance of cold air on metal, the heat of the cockpit, leathery aviator jackets - and it recalls the rush of adrenaline you feel as the airplane climbs up and up, just as your stomach drops.
But let’s give you a closer look at this clever niche perfume. The fragrance takes off with citrus-aromatic grapefruit, steel-like flint and the fresh, chilled-metal tones of aldehyde. It continues its ascent with the floral and herbaceous nuances of knife-cold sage, which contrasts with the intensely spicy heat of nutmeg, cardamom and sichuan pepper. Finally, the scent glides through serene skies as vetiver and balsamic incense pairs with smoked leather, set against a quietly sexy backdrop of ambery, almond-like tonka bean.
Top notes are Grapefruit, Flint Accord, Aldehydes. Heart notes are Sage, Nutmeg, Cardamom, Sichuan Pepper. Base notes are Vetiver, Incense, Tonka Beans, Leather Accord.
Why it’s Escentual:
Atkinsons’ The Excelsior Bouquet is not merely a fragrance: it’s the sensation of freedom and the thrill of immense open skies. We think this fresh, aromatic scent is perfect for the modern-day adventurer, who wants an exciting fragrance that captures the exhilaration, danger and heroism of the first-ever non-stop flight over the Atlantic. Accomplished in June 1919 by Englishmen John William Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown, this key moment in modern history is honoured in every last detail of this scent - from the show-stopping ‘fresh air’ feeling of the start, to the iconic and utterly tangible scent of an aviator jacket lined with fur. We particularly love the heart as it cleverly unites two opposing tones; cool sage with a trio of hot facets, which we think represents the juxtaposition between the icy metal of the plane’s exterior and the cosy heat of the cockpit. Overall, Benoist Lapouza’s scent has a classically masculine fougere feel to it, but it’s adventurously reinterpreted with flint-like coldness, sage, and vetiver, resulting in a timeless piece that soars into the 21st century with style and grace.
